Vintage Saharan Kilim Zanafi (Circa 1970's)

This is a stunner of a rug - a Saharan Zanafi circa 1970s.

Zanafi rugs always have more than one technique. This has a close flatweave with hand embroidery as the detail. This piece could have been made by a novice weaver as there are several areas where the weaving has gone wrong, and several threads have gone in together - they are either end of the rug.

It's one of my favourite things - no machine can replicate it!
